Gateron Oil King vs Ink Black V2: both are linear
An older article incorrectly described Ink Black V2 as tactile and clicky. Gateron identifies both switches as linear.

We explain published product specifications. We have not independently bench-tested these products and currently show no affiliate purchase links.
Neither switch has a tactile bump by design
Gateron's published specifications identify Oil King and Ink Black V2 as linear switches. They should not be marketed as tactile switches. That one distinction changes the purchase decision for someone who wants a tactile bump.
- Oil King: manufacturer lists a linear feel and 55±5 gf operating force.
- Ink Black V2: manufacturer lists a linear feel and 60±15 gf operating force.
- Both have a listed nominal pre-travel of about 2.0 mm with stated manufacturer tolerances; check individual variants for current specs.
Feel is not the same as a spec sheet
Operating-force figures are published ranges, not guarantees of how a switch will feel in your keyboard. Plate, keycaps, lubrication, typing technique, and the keyboard's case can alter sound and perceived feel.
Gateron lists Oil King as factory pre-lubed. Claims about every Ink Black V2 package being pre-lubed vary across seller pages, so verify the exact SKU instead of assuming it.
Before you buy
- Check whether your keyboard supports the switch's pin layout and MX-compatible mount.
- Check the operating force and full-travel specifications for the exact seller SKU.
- Choose tactile or clicky switches only if you specifically want the bump or audible click; these two models are linear.
- Treat first-hand experience claims with skepticism unless the reviewer states what they personally tested.
